mY TOP PICK FOR AN eSIM

So you’re traveling to another country & don’t want to completely break the bank for service… an eSIM is the way to go.

Let me share with you the eSIM I used a few months back for a SCUBA trip to Tulum, Mexico.

Being my first time out of the country and at the time having Straight Talk for service I had no clue what to do. I had certainly never heard of an eSIM.

I started my research and looked into a few different options.

While I could have bought a SIM there, it seemed much less stressful to just set up an app.

I had already broken the bank paying for last minute plane tickets so I could go on the best scuba trip of my life to date. (To read more about that click here!)

For a few better deals on tickets than I got, check out Expedia as an option!

That’s when I came across E-sim cards. There are many companies that offer such things so I did what any sensible person with too many options does.

I turned to eSIM YouTube.

On YouTube I found comparison videos on which e-sims work best and for which countries. I also compared prices.

Here’s a great instructional video and honest review on YouTube!

And so my eSIM decision was made.

In my research I came across many youtube videos and blog posts on Airalo.

Airalo does an excellent solving these common issues:
  • Figuring out how to buy a SIM in another country. You can set it up before you leave home!
  • No crazy international roaming fees. You would think Verizon wouldn’t charge me as much considering I pay an arm and a leg for regular service.
  • Lack of countries. Airalo covers 200+ Countries.
  • Trust. Trusted by over 5,000,000 people worldwide.
How it works:
  1. Download the app
  2. Choose your destination & package
  3. Install your eSIM
  4. Activate your eSIM

My experience with the airalo in Tulum, Mexico.

The Airalo Mexico eSIM is what I used when I flew into Cancun to travel to Tulum for a week of Cenote diving.

I dowloaded the app, followed the instructions and headed to my first new country! Turns out I didn’t follow the instructions very well…

I ended up sitting in the floor of the Cancun airport and asked one of the gaurds who spoke english (my spanish is horrendous from lack of practice.) if she new what one of the words said so I could get onto the wifi.

She was super nice and helful and it helped me figure out why my eSIM wasn’t working. I had forgot to toggle off my service provider and it was messing stuff up.

When I did use it it worked pretty well aside from when I was in the middle of the jungle. At that point I didn’t need my phone anyway because I was gearing up to be in underwater cavern systems. Social media and civilization were the least of my concerns.

Overall I had an a great eSIM experience!
